Working to make New Jersey great!
We are an integral part of the Jersey Shore and central New Jersey community. That is why we believe our role involves more than growing businesses and keeping the community informed. It involves continually working to make our communities healthier, happier and safer places for those who reside and visit here. We value the partnerships that we have with nonprofit organizations in our community, and we work hard to help them in their efforts. Our employees serve as volunteers and board members for dozens of community organizations. A few include:
- Asbury Park Musical Heritage Foundation American Red Cross
- FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties
- Light of Day Foundation
- Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey
- Monmouth and Ocean Development Council (MODC)
Every year, we provide thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of volunteer time to assist nonprofit organizations through four main channels:
Gannett Foundation: A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett. The Gannett Foundation supports nonprofit activities across New Jersey and other Gannett influenced communities. In 2012, the Gannett Foundation made grants and matched employee donations to nonprofits for a total of $6.9 million.
Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and many businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett’s USA TODAY and its carrier newspapers, including the Asbury Park Press, Home News Tribune, Courier News and Daily Record. Employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need.
- Make a Difference Day 2014 - Kula Farm
- Make a Difference Day 2014 - Fountain restoration, Bound Brook
- Make a Difference Day 2015 - Lunch Break
Susan G Komen/Race for the Cure: At Gannett NJ we turn the pages of our newspapers and websites pink to support the Susan G Komen annual Race for the Cure on the first Sunday each October. In this state-wide initiative all departments work together to raise funds and awareness of breast cancer as we "Press for a Cure". A portion of the advertising sales for day as well as contributions from circulation contribute to our annual donation. The Gannett NJ team also participates in the race held each year at Six Flags/Great Adventure.
The Asbury Park Press Hockey Classic: APP stepped in to continue the tradition of summer all-star ice hockey showcases at the Jersey Shore, while raising money for the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen of Red Bank and Toms River. Nearly 700 of people came out on Sunday, August 23rd to cheer on 42 of the top skaters from Monmouth and Ocean Counties at Middletown Ice World. Presented by Trinity Financial Sports & Entertainment Management, and sponsored by Avon Pond, Beacon Awards & Signs, and the New Jersey Devils, the afternoon included a raffle highlighted by autographed memorabilia by NHL, NFL, and MLB stars and appearances from former NHL players Grant Marshall of the New Jersey Devils and Nicholas Fotiu of the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.
