Consumers of all types are online, which means every business needs a digital presence—even those that operate outdoors and seasonally. Spring is right around the corner, so it’s time for lawn care and landscaping companies to be found online.
With 67% of customers searching for local landscaping businesses on the Internet, being online isn’t an option. And while having a website is a great start, it’s just the beginning. Ranking high in organic search with engines like Google should be the desired result. Business websites need search engine optimization (SEO) to rise to the top.
When it comes to a digital presence, mobile cannot be ignored. According to Google, nearly 60% of searches are happening on mobile devices. That means websites should be built with the responsive design to ensure that they show well across all devices. Responsive design uses your website’s domain, content, and layout to deliver an identical, seamless experience, regardless of screen size.
Landscaping customers aren’t just searching online for a vendor, they’re researching and investigating reputations. While a company website allows businesses to control their message, that’s not the only place consumers can find information. Posting happy customer testimonials and quotes is great, but lack the degree of authenticity consumers want. Review sites like Yelp allow people to share their experiences and rate their transactions. Online reviews are incredibly influential, touting as much as a 90% recall rate for positive reviews and 86% recall for negative ones, influencing buying decisions.
With 34% of homeowners taking online reviews into consideration when selecting a landscaping company, it’s important that businesses actively manage their listings, monitor activity, and provide excellent customer service by quickly responding to complaints.
When it comes to a robust digital presence, it’s not just about being found—it’s also about getting the word out. The good news is, homeowners are very receptive to online messages from local landscapers. A 2016 survey found that 68% of landscape customers would like to receive communications via email and social media. These consumers are interested in service information, appointment reminders, and helpful tips.
