We’re Working to make Morris County great!
We are an integral part of the Morris County community. That is why we believe our role involves more than growing businesses and keeping the community informed. It involves continually working to make our communities healthier, happier and safer places for those who reside and visit here. We value the partnerships that we have with nonprofit organizations in our community, and we work hard to help them in their efforts. Our employees serve as volunteers and board members for dozens of community organizations, including American Red Cross, Sustainable Morristown, United Way, Susan G. Komen and many others.
Every year, we provide thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of volunteer time to assist nonprofit organizations through four main channels:
Gannett Foundation: A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett. The Gannett Foundation supports nonprofit activities across New Jersey and other Gannett influenced communities. In 2012, the Gannett Foundation made grants and matched employee donations to nonprofits for a total of $6.9 million.
Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and many businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett’s USA TODAY and its carrier newspapers, including the Asbury Park Press, Home News Tribune, Courier News and Daily Record employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need.
Operation Holiday: For 42 years, the Daily Record participated in Operation Holiday. We run stories about people in need each day leading up to Christmas and readers contribute money which is used to support hundreds of families and individuals throughout Morris County. Contributions are generally used to purchase food, clothing and pharmaceutical certificates for people in need but also toys for children. Many longtime corporate donors adopt families year after year and cover all the costs of their clothing and gifts. The donations come to us and we send them to The Woman’s Club of Morristown. Members of the Woman’s Club shop for the items that people want, wrap them up, etc. In 2014, we raised over $65,000.
